Work Redux | Consequences

  • Machine Shop 300 2nd Street Southeast Minneapolis, MN, 55414 United States (map)

The ramifications of gender tremble through every corner of our lives, our work, and our dreams. We feel the burdens of gender in old patriarchal standards of parenting, beauty, sexuality, leadership, earning potential, and ambition. We feel the consequences of gender in the physical pain and violence hiding within the silent corners of our personal histories.

We hide the aftermath of these encounters from all aspects of public life—especially within professional discourse. Nevertheless, the profound emotional hardship of these traumatic experiences courses beneath workplace and family dynamics.

We deserve more than to fall back into “business as usual” after life comes crashing into us. The times demand that we stop normalizing the consequences of our gender and start dismantling systems that benefit from these fallouts. Fallout from experiencing sexual harassment and assault. Fallout from bringing life into this world. Fallout from challenging gender norms. Fallout from being vulnerable.

To prepare for the future of work, we must construct a new architecture where every rung of scaffolding is reinforced to protect and support all women from the aftershocks of their gender implications.
